March purchases

Sub_Blog2

If you remember, I was due to fly off to Japan on March 27th, a trip which I’ve mentioned in a previous post we had to cancel due to the Covid-19 outbreak. I’m almost over it, kind of, but at point of cancellation in early March, I was undoubtedly in a very bad place, which led me to do a lot of what I’ve called “sad-time spending”. Looking back, I didn’t actually buy as much as I thought I had, so there’s that at least.

I had put myself on a break from buying subscription boxes, but after not going to Japan, I decided I’d get one. The theme for SoKawaii this month was ‘Sakura’, and as my trip to Japan had been planned for April so we could see the Sakura blossoms, it seemed like the perfect box to get! An unboxing post is coming in the next couple of days, but I’m really happy with everything that came in the box!

I decided, after months of coveting, that I would finally spring for the vinyl soundtrack of A Silent Voice, arguably one of my favourite anime movies. In my recent move, I’ve been able to set up my record player again, and have my vinyl collection out, so I want to start buying vinyl again. The only trouble is you don’t get k-pop albums on vinyl (at least not that I’ve found anyway, feel free to prove me wrong!), and that’s all I tend to listen to now, so apart from getting some of my favourite western music on vinyl, I’m kind of limited to what I can buy, so having soundtracks of my favourite films seems like a great option! As you can see from the photo, it’s a double vinyl in a really nice blue colour, which I think might make it my first coloured vinyl but I could be totally wrong.

I totally caved to the hype and decided to get Animal Crossing: New Horizons. I’ve only ever played an Animal Crossing game for maybe an hour at most, but it just looked so cute and wholesome, and everyone was getting really excited about it, so I decided to take the plunge. It came out three weeks ago at time of writing, and I’ve put over 70 hours into it, so I would say that’s a successful gaming purchase. I also bought the Fire Emblem Three Houses DLC, which I’ve yet to play because Animal Crossing has taken over my life. I do plan to write a summary of my time with Animal Crossing so far, so… stay tuned I guess.IMG_6783

What would a month be without some new manga? I’ve decided I really need to finish some collections instead of just constantly starting new ones, so I bought Ouran High School Host Club volume 8 (and put the rest on my wishlist ready for my birthday in mid-April!). I also got the first volume of given, which I had on preorder after a disastrous purchase at the beginning of the year where I bought the German version, so if anyone’s in the market for that…. I also can’t go a month without buying some BL, so I bought Don’t Be Cruel, which was a double of volumes 1 and 2.

Finally, I treated myself with some extra money I had earned freelancing to something I had planned to buy in Japan. The Nendoroid of Shigaraki Tomura from Boku No Hero Academia. He’s one of my favourite anime characters, and I now have a little display to him in my living room (pictured below), as well as an ita-bag.

I also bought some boring things like allergy tests, tooth whitening kits and online courses, purely just to keep me occupied as the lockdown gets extended! That wraps up my March purchases, hope you enjoyed!~

Day 9: Your first anime crush

My first anime crush was back in the days before I even knew what anime was, watching Pokémon. I don’t quite know why, as he’s definitely not my type of character now, but I really loved James when I was younger!

If we count Pokémon as my first anime, then my first anime crush when I consciouly knew what anime was came about during my third anime, Attack on Titan. Levi is definitely my type of character, and probably the reason I like most characters I do like. Whilst I don’t like James much, I still love Levi and he’s probably one of my favourite Attack on Titan characters.

Day 7: Which character would you want to be your workout buddy?

This one was pretty tough because I have watched a lot of sports anime in my time, and it goes without saying that any of the characters would be prime workout buddies.

I’ve gone for a double pick here, firstly choosing Aida Riko from Kuroko No Basuke. I feel like her scan ability would be really helpful in order to bring out the best in my workouts and target key areas!

For the same reason, I’m also going for Matsuoko Gou from Free! Gou’s love of muscles and experience in putting together training plans would really come in handy!

2020 Challenges: March Recap

Sub_Challenges2

You’d think that being housebound would mean I’d be powering through these challenges…. think again. Some of the challenges are completely unchanged, in fact, it’s only the anime one I’ve managed to make any headway on.

Watch 40 anime

March end total: 7

Winter seasonal shows are starting to wrap up now. Naturally I’m behind, but I’ve managed to finish a couple of shows in March; Science Fell in Love, So I Tried to Prove It and The Case Files of Jeweler Richard. My aim is to be totally up to date with all my shows by the end of this week, so April should see a hefty jump in these numbers!

Watch 40 movies in the cinema

March end total: 5

Now we’re not allowed to leave the house, and every movie ever is being delayed, I’m anticipating that I probably won’t hit this target by the end of the year. At least this one is not my fault!

Platinum 20 games

March end total: 1

Read 15 books

March end total: 0

Finish 100 best movies

March end total: 2

Finish Naruto

March end total: 3 episodes

Day 5: An anime you’re ashamed you enjoy

Sorry to be super boring, but there’s nothing I’m really ashamed about. I made it a point to not be ashamed about anything I enjoy after spending much of my teenage years feeling the same.

Day 6: Character you would like to cosplay

Oh boy…. that’s kind of a loaded question. I have so many cosplay plans from anime. I want to cosplay from every Ghibli movie, for a start. So far I’ve only done Howl from Howl’s Moving Castle, so I’ve got a long way to go on that.

Other cosplans that I had for this year were Pixie-Bob from Boku No Hero Academia, Ray from The Promised Neverland, and Izumi from Love Stage, but who knows if I’m going to be able to leave the house this year to be able to do them!

Day 4: Which character(s) would you want as a best friend?

After much deliberation, my chosen anime bestie is Tachibana Makoto from Free!. Makoto proves time and time again over the course of all Free! series that he’s the sweetest, kindest, and most genuinely caring out of all of the Free! boys, and in fact probably in any anime I’ve watched. He clearly loves his friends, and as the designated mum friend is always making sure Haru remains a semi-normal functioning human.

He’s also got backstroke for days.

Day 3: Favourite Anime OP

I was wracking my brain over this one and even enlisted the help of Chelsie (whose blog you should check out here!), and somehow this theme completed evaded us until it came to me in a flash of inspiration, and it was so obvious once I thought of it.

The answer for the greatest anime OP of all time is of course the Ouran High School Host Club OP. Ouran is actually one of the few anime I’ve watched the dub of, so I’ve gone for the dubbed OP, but the Japanese version slaps too!

Review: My Hero One’s Justice 2

Sub_VideoGames2

My Hero One’s Justice 2 is the second fighting game based on My Hero Academia, arguably one of the most popular anime in the world. As its title suggests, My Hero One’s Justice 2 is the follow-up to 2018’s equally awkwardly titled My Hero One’s Justice — and it’s every bit as bland as its predecessor.

large

My Hero One’s Justice 2 boasts a lot of different modes, each of which is enjoyable in its own right, if not a bit repetitive at times. Story mode focuses on retelling recent events from the anime, centring on the Provisional Hero License Exam and Shie Hassaikai arcs. This does feel somewhat like a double-edged sword; on the one hand it’s really cool to be reliving those moments and taking part in some truly iconic battles, but on the other hand, it all feels so recent — it would have been nice to experience some original content. Story mode does offer this to an extent, giving the option to replay it as a villain to get another perspective on the story, but still, it all feels like you’re retreading very familiar ground.

When’s the perfect time to revive a dead feature? Social isolation! In an ideal world I’d kick back off on the second day of the month so each new theme starts in a brand new month, but if I keep thinking like that, I’ll never get these posted! I think I might try and double up on some posts and make that a goal for the start of April!

Day 2: Most recent completed anime

As is customary for the start of any new anime season, at the start of the winter season, I took on far too many seasonal shows. I’ve ended up dropping a fair few (and one was put on indefinite hiatus, boo!), but a few have remained. The first to finish was Science Fell in Love, So I Tried to Prove It.

MV5BYWY2Y2I4MzctNzQ5MC00NTk4LTllYTQtNGJmNTBkOGI4ZGU2XkEyXkFqcGdeQXVyMzI2Mjc1NjQ@._V1_

The premise of the show is that two ‘science types’ confess their love for each other, but then set about proving their love by completing a series of experiments. It’s a really funny show, and really light-hearted. I’ll try and get a proper review up soon, but to cut the mystery, I gave it a 7 on MAL, which is pretty decent!
